Like the Jett sedan, the Passat is adding the new turbocharged 1.8-liter, four-cylinder that produces 170 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque to its engine lineup.

Volkswagen says it will eventually replace the 2.5-liter, five-cylinder engine that has 170 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. The engine comes in all base-model Passats.
