Happy Hour with Joel Gott Pinot Gris
Roseville, Calif. – This past weekend’s happy hour included a sampling of Mexican inspired foods. Well short of authentic, we nevertheless decided to have some fun as we paired up our treats with a bottle of Joel Gott 2014 Oregon Pinot Gris.
While Joel Gott reds are regularly enjoyed among family and friends, this would be our first try of their Pinot Gris. A little Internet research suggested Pinot Gris as a compliment to Mexican dishes.
According to the Joel Gott website, “The 2014 Joel Gott Pinot Gris has white peach aromas with floral notes. On the palate, the wine is balanced, opening with bright acidity and refreshing Meyer lemon citrus flavors, followed by a juicy mid-palate, and a long finish.”
We were surprised at how well the Pinot Gris paired with our Mexican-inspired happy hour. The flavors of the wine were distinct and subtle and a nice compliment to some of the spicier foods. We listened to wine experts and are glad we did!
If you’re pressed for time, this happy hour combo is quick and easy. In short order, our whole family pitched in and helped put together a sampling of Mexican rice, tortilla chips, sliced avocado, tomato, refried beans, browned meat with taco seasoning, Pico de Gallo, Monterey Jack cheese, grapes and spicy salsa. Mini-taco bowls were the perfect addition and fan favorite among the younger crowd.
Joel Gott Pinot Gris is a nice touch for a Mexican flavored fiesta. Consider grabbing a bottle or two for your next family and friends celebration.
