Facility celebrates five years with $5 adoptions
Auburn, Calif.- Throughout Dec., Placer County Animal Services invites the community to celebrate five years at its new animal center.
Placer County’s new Animal Services Center opened in 2016 with the ability to house approximately 80% more dogs and 75% more cats than its previous facility. The new center also has the capacity to house more than twice the number of animals during large incidents, such as wildfires, than the previous shelter.
“In our new and improved facility, we have proudly reached a 93% save rate.”

With the help from generous donors, the center will be offering $5 adoptions among other specials:
- Adopters will receive free goodies with adoption
- Rabbit adopters will receive a bunny starter kit that includes a cage, food and other supplies to get started
- All adopters during the month of Dec. will be entered into several drawings for free pet supplies
“Partnerships with local cities, county departments and other animal service organizations allowed our shelter to serve thousands more pets in more communities,” said Animal Services Manager Katie Ingram. “In our new and improved facility, we have proudly reached a 93% save rate, which is the highest our shelter has achieved to date.”
Since moving to the new facility, 12,410 pets have been served. For the first time ever, the new center has the space to transfer pets from neighboring, overcrowded facilities, saving hundreds of additional pets.
Animal Control officers provided hundreds of hours of mutual and local aid by assisting with animal rescue, transportation and sheltering during the Camp, North Complex, River and Caldor fires. The active volunteer base more than doubled and reached nearly 50,000 volunteer hours at the new center.
Individuals that have adopted a pet from Placer County Animal Services are encouraged to share an update of their adoption story by messaging @PlacerAnimals on Facebook or through emailing [email protected].
The shelter is located in the Placer County Government Center, 11232 B Ave. in North Auburn. The front office hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Kennel hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Learn more about the shelter, volunteering or donations.
