Roseville, Calif.- The Roseville Police Department traffic unit conducted a “zero tolerance” traffic enforcement operation, concentrating mostly on the area of North Sunrise Avenue and Eureka Road. Officers issued 61 citations, mostly for unsafe speed.

At 10:52 a.m., just as the operation was ending, one of the officers saw two vehicles street racing on westbound Pleasant Grove Boulevard near Roseville Parkway, weaving in and out of traffic at high rates of speed.  Jason Shinjiro Veile, 24, of Sacramento and Jordan Jon Dodge, 22, of Roseville, were arrested on suspicion of reckless driving and engaging in an illegal speed contest.  Both of their vehicles were towed and will be impounded for 30 days at the owners’ expense.

A conviction for engaging in a speed contest carries a potential fine of $1,368, and also adds two points to a violator’s driving record.

This morning’s “zero tolerance” operation is part of an ongoing series of special traffic enforcement operations conducted by the Roseville Police Department to calm traffic and prevent traffic-related deaths and injuries.

Funding for Roseville’s special enforcement operations is provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
