Sacramento, Calif.: JIM BRIAN SMITH, age 26, of Orangevale, Calif., was arrested on Monday, February 26, 2007, by the Roseville Police Department for the robbery of the US Bank branch located at 10325 Fairway Drive, Roseville, Calif. SMITH was arrested at approximately 12:02 p.m. in the vicinity of the 100 block of Wills Road in Roseville.
SMITH is suspected of robbing four additional banks in the last three months, to include the December 8, 2006, robbery of Bank of Lodi, 9454 Main Street, Plymouth, Calif.; the December 29, 2006, robbery of Washington Mutual, 8859 Madison Avenue, Sacramento, Calif.; the January 19, 2007, robbery of Placer Community Credit Union, 12100 Nevada City Highway, Grass Valley, Calif.; and the January 30, 2007, robbery of the Golden 1 Credit Union, 415 S. Highway 65, Lincoln, Calif.
The Sacramento Violent Crimes Task Force, comprised of FBI agents and Sacramento County Sheriff’s robbery detectives, investigated this series of bank robberies with the Amador County Sheriff’s Department, Lincoln Police Department, Grass Valley Police Department and Roseville Police Department.
SMITH is being held at the Placer County Jail on a $255,000 bail. Federal bank robbery charges are expected to be filed against him this week. The series of bank robberies will be prosecuted by the United States Attorneys Office, Eastern District of California.
