Roseville, Calif.- Lonnie Burke, age 85 of Roseville, died yesterday (Wednesday, May 7) at Sutter Roseville Medical Center from injuries suffered in a stabbing the previous day.ย  His son, Patrick Allen Burke, age 55, has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his father and the attempted murder of a peace officer.ย ย ย

At 6:20 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, Roseville Police and Roseville Fire personnel responded to a home in the 1100 block of Windermere Avenue, to a report that a man had just stabbed his elderly father.ย  When the first officer arrived on scene, he encountered Patrick Burke outside the residence, armed with a large knife.ย  The suspect attempted to attack the officer, and the officer, fearing for his life, shot the suspect.ย  Additional officers arrived on scene, and found the 85-year-old victim down inside the residence, suffering from multiple stab wounds.ย ย

Both the victim and suspect were transported by ambulance to Sutter Roseville Medical Center.ย

Patrick Burke remains hospitalized under police guard.ย  He is in serious condition, but is expected to survive. At this point, the investigation hasn’t revealed any evidence of an argument between the father and the son before the son allegedly assaulted his father.

The homicide and subsequent officer-involved shooting are being investigated by the Roseville Police Department’s Investigation’s Unit.ย  The investigation is being monitored by the Placer County District Attorney’s Office according to the department’s protocol for officer-involved shootings.ย ย  The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid
