Roseville, Calif,- On June 14, 2011 at approximately 3:10 p.m., Ramin Shekarlab, a 48 year old from Folsom was driving a 2006 silver Toyota Solara on southbound Sunrise Avenue just south of Wildridge Drive.
For unknown reason, Shekarlab allowed his vehicle to drift to the right and travel onto the sidewalk where it struck a Sacramento Regional Transit bus stop bench.
The impact dislodged the bench and tore it into pieces, scattering over the roadway. After striking the bench, the Solara traveled in a south easterly direction crossing over a center median and into the northbound lanes of Sunrise Avenue where Vincent Simon, a 30 year old from Roseville, was riding a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle.
The Solara struck the motorcycle head on and continued out of control across the northbound lanes where it struck several trees. The Solara came to rest on its right side, between two trees. The motorcycle and rider came to rest in the #2 lane of northbound Sunrise Avenue.
Shekarlab and Simon were both transported and admitted to Mercy San Juan Hospital with major injuries. Shekarlab was driving on a suspended driver’s license. At this time, it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs or a medical condition is a contributing factor to this collision. Northbound Sunrise Avenue was closed to traffic from Sunset Avenue to Wildridge Drive for approximately two hours.
This collision is still under investigation.
