Despite last Wednesday’s driving rainstorm and gusting winds, Placer County Sheriff’s employees, along with members of the Placer County Law Enforcement Chaplaincy, laid to rest the body of the newborn baby boy who was found discarded in a trash bag along a Newcastle roadway on June 21.

Although the mother of the baby has not been found, investigators wanted to give the baby a decent burial. He was buried in the baby section of the New Auburn Cemetery.

The gruesome discovery of the baby’s body was made when a woman walking along Green Hills Court in an undeveloped subdivision waved down a deputy and told him there was a foul odor coming from a pile of garbage bags several feet off the roadway. The deputy found the baby’s body, along with other garbage bags.

Anyone with information that could lead investigators to the baby’s mother is urged to call the Placer County Sheriff’s Office at (530) 889-7800. For callers wishing to remain anonymous, please call Placer County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-923-8191. All callers remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 if the information leads to an arrest.
