Folsom, Calif.- Just prior to 3am on an early July morning, Folsom Police Officers noticed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed with its headlights off on Iron Point Road. The vehicle ran through the intersection of Iron Point Road and Empire Ranch Road without stopping for the stop sign. When officers attempted to pull the vehicle over the driver fled. During the pursuit, the driver continued to flee at high rates of speed, attempted to run over police officers with his vehicle, and drove in a fashion that endangered officers and citizens.
The pursuit terminated when the suspect vehicle made contact with another vehicle causing the suspect to lose control of his vehicle. The suspect was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on-scene. The other involved citizen was not injured in the collision.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol are investigating the collision but it appears the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. It is unknown if drugs and/or alcohol were a factor.
The name of the driver has been withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
