Homeless man under arrest

A homeless man is under arrest for attempted murder after he torched another homeless man’s tent and burned him Tuesday night.

Raymond Carrillo, 39, and the victim had an argument in a field off of Highway 49, near Luther Road, where the two were camping with others. Shortly after the argument, Carrillo threw an accelerant into the man’s tent and lit it on fire. The victim, Timmy Swensen, 50, sustained second-degree burns to his face, hands and legs.

Swensen told detectives that he walked to an area nearby and laid down for the remainder of the night. He then rode his bicycle to Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital Wednesday morning and deputies were called there around 8:30 a.m.

Deputies also responded to the camp, where they took Carrillo into custody on charges of attempted murder and arson. He is being held without bail.
