$793,000 for Sports Fields in Rocklin and Lincoln

Roseville, Calif. – Placer Valley Tourism, South Placer County’s Business Improvement District, has made a $793,000 financial gift to improve sports fields and help attract amateur tournaments to Lincoln and Rocklin.

“We are thrilled to be able to partner with our local agencies to help ensure our area sports fields are outfitted with the latest amenities,” said Placer Valley Tourism CEO David Attaway. “Not only does this investment give our regional athletes the chance to play in up-to-date facilities, but these upgrades are imperative if we are to continue to lure out-of-state clubs to South Placer County to play in our amateur tournaments.”

In Lincoln’s Foskett Park, a $145,000 investment to the softball complex will help construct fan and dugout shade structures, trees for additional shade and new bleachers. The City of Lincoln contributed to upgrading the park by building a new restroom.  Tournament organizers had been renting portable restrooms to meet fan and player needs. The shade improvements will be completed by September.

The McBean Stadium renovation project was given a $260,000 boost by Placer Valley Tourism in a collaborative effort with the City of Lincoln and William Jessup University. The donation helps cover the costs for new batting cages, dugouts, an electrical scoreboard, artificial infield turf, outfield grass, irrigation, foul poles, fencing and fence capping.

“Placer Valley Tourism’s financial support of the improvements at Lincoln’s McBean Stadium and Foskett Park will lead to even greater interest for tournaments and events in Lincoln,” said Lincoln Mayor Spencer Short. “Sports tourism generates significant spending that creates business opportunities and jobs in our community. We are fortunate to have great partners like PVT to develop first class facilities for the Lincoln community and beyond.”In a partnership with the City of Rocklin and Rocklin Pony Baseball, a $388,000 investment will result in eight bleachers, a shade structure, four scorekeeper booths and eight new bullpen areas at Whitney Park. The funds will also lead to the purchase of portable mounds to allow organizers the ability to host softball and baseball tournaments on the same fields. Rocklin City Council approved the gift during the April 26 meeting. Construction is set to begin in late fall.

“We approached Placer Valley Tourism hoping to get help with field upgrades,” said President Shaun Baland with Rocklin Pony Baseball. “Placer Valley Tourism worked diligently to deliver on all of our needs. They negotiated with our league and city officials to get the deal done.  We want to thank them for their generosity, our league and the local baseball community will have a great facility for our kids and for attracting future tournaments. “

In addition to the $800,000 investment into local sports facilities, Placer Valley Tourism is helping to build a $35 million jointly funded project between Placer Valley Tourism and the City of Roseville that will feature 10 multi-use, state-of-the-art artificial turf fields for various sports.
