Tasty Bites at Old Fisherman’s Wharf
Monterey, Calif. – On a recent visit to Monterey, we found ourselves enjoying the sights and sounds of Old Fisherman’s Wharf as we slowly meandered around this colorful part of town in search of dinner.
An almost carnival-like atmosphere takes hold along the wharf as many restaurateurs boldly encourage you to partake in free samples of their versions of clam chowder while encouraging you to visit their eatery.
However, the loud and bold is not what captured our attention most. It was a young woman, quiet and reserved offering up a friendly smile with samples that drew us in to a restaurant. As luck would have it, it was an excellent choice.
Upon entering Abalonetti Bar and Grill, we were warmly greeted before being seated. We cozied up to a waterside table and took in the views. Our waiter Tao, who seemed as genuinely happy to be there as we were took our drink and dinner orders. He helped make our experience great. Terrific service.
With many tempting items on the menu to choose from, I selected the Salmon Filet, grilled and served with garlic-spinach, sautéed new potatoes and tomato coulis. Perfectly cooked and seasoned with just the right spices, it was a tasty hit. Sue chose the Pork Loin Chop, marinated and charbroiled, roasted garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables. She succinctly described it, “delicious!”
The healthy portions were very filling, but the dessert beckoned. We agreed to split a chocolate soufflé with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. A picture is always worth a thousand words as a large smile overcame my wife’s face…
Established in 1951, The Abalonetti Bar and Grill is an iconic restaurant that began when Old Fisherman’s Wharf was a much different place.
Today, it’s a great excuse for local and travelers to visit the Old Fisherman’s Wharf for a delicious meal, friendly service and a great time!
