Energy Education

Teaching students about energy use

Santa Clara, Calif.- Silicon Valley Power is partnering with Tinker LLC to bring a new energy education program to Santa Clara schools. The program is available at no cost to teachers who teach fourth grade or high school Civics or Environmental Science and want to help their students become leaders in energy efficiency.

This Energy Education Program is fully funded by Silicon Valley Power.

This program will:

  • Provide teachers with content that enriches current curriculum and supports California Department of Education standards
  • Educate students about the importance of electricity and sustainability
  • Provide students with the tools to be responsible users of energy for a lifetime

The Energy Education Program is designed to teach students about energy and why it should be used wisely and responsibly. The unit is offered through an online web app that is accessible both in the classroom and by those learning from home. Students compete for prizes while learning about energy in our community and participating in hands-on activities. Teachers can earn mini-grants for classroom supplies, too.

The visual and hands-on lessons are Common Core and CDE Standards correlated and provide an excellent supplement to the classroom.
