Sammy’s Rockin’ Island Bar & Grill to Reopen in Roseville

Roseville, Calif. – Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar and the Roseville Community Development Corporation today confirmed plans to reopen Sammy’s Rockin’ Island Bar & Grill on Vernon Street in downtown Roseville this fall.

“I’m just really happy to bring this back for the fans,” Sammy Hagar commented. “Roseville’s such a cool city and I plan on spending a lot more time there – jamming and playing live with friends.”

“We are thrilled to bring Sammy back to downtown Roseville, ” said Chris Robles, CEO of the Roseville Community Development Corporation. “He brings a tremendous energy and commitment to downtown Roseville as we saw with the initial opening of the restaurant.”

Through a new lease agreement with members of the Hagar family, “The Island” will be two-parts Maui, one-part Cabo, with a live music chaser. From the décor to the menu, it captures the essence of sun and surf with creative cocktails, craft beers and beach inspired fare from lunch to late night.

The Roseville Community Development Corporation (RCDC) gained ownership of the building at 238 Vernon Street in Roseville, which houses Sammy’s Rockin’ Island Bar & Grill, on April 17, 2014.  The property includes more than $2 million in tenant improvements made by the original owners in 2012.

“There was immense interest in this location from strong entertainment restaurateurs from the very beginning of this process.  They clearly saw the potential in downtown Roseville,” said Robles. “Reopening the restaurant with Sammy was always our first choice.”

Sammy’s Rockin’ Island Bar & Grill, a 10,000 sq. ft. restaurant, is a high visibility catalyst in the Roseville’s downtown revitalization effort.  The City of Roseville named September 15, 2012 Sammy Hagar Day in honor of the original opening of Sammy’s Rockin’ Island Bar & Grill.   The day also included a charity concert by Sammy Hagar and the Wabos inside the restaurant and a street party on Vernon Street in front of the restaurant.

Sammy’s Rockin’ Island Bar & Grill immediately became a popular downtown Roseville destination.  The death of restaurant co-owner Steve Pease and the closing of the restaurant in November 2013 caused the restaurant to default on a loan to the RCDC.  Following the foreclosure process, the RCDC acquired the building and its contents in April 2014.

The Roseville Community Development Corporation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public benefit corporation.  The RCDC is focused on physical, economic and educational development throughout the community creating expanded employment, economic prosperity and housing opportunities for all.

Key benefits of the RCDC include: forming business partnerships with businesses; expediting economic development and revitalization goals; creating an environment that attracts private investment; utilizing existing human capital and community resources; and providing broader access to diverse funding sources.
