Biggest event of the year for the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio Club

Auburn, Calif.- Ham radio operators from the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio Club (SFARC) will be participating in a national amateur radio exercise June 24th through the 26th at the Georgetown Airport.

The event is known as ARRL Field Day, an annual amateur radio activity organized by ARRL, the national association for amateur radio in the United States. Since 1933, “hams” from across North America have participated in Field Day by establishing temporary ham radio stations in public locations to demonstrate their use of 2-way radio signals to reach beyond borders and bring people together all while providing essential communication in the service of communities.

Field Day highlights ham radio’s ability to work reliably under any conditions from almost any location and create an independent, wireless communications network. “ARRL Field Day is the biggest event of the year for the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio Club (SFARC)” said Jeff Morgan, president of the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio Club (KN6RGO).

“It’s thrilling to see the members pull together for set up and tear down, but also very exciting to get on the air and work all bands and modes.”
