CURRENT AND UPCOMING EXHIBITIONS

Adults by Schulz (through January 16, 2022)
Charles M. Schulz created some of the world’s most recognizable young characters, but Peanuts was not his only foray into the funny pages. In the mid-1950s, Schulz developed a concept for a workplace humor strip featuring adults. The strip, titled Hagemeyer, was proposed to United Feature Syndicate as a new strip by Schulz and was drawn on blank Peanuts frame templates from this era. Until now, all seven strips have never been seen together in person or in publication! Delight in a rare opportunity to see characters differing from the beloved Peanuts Gang.

Drawn from Life The People and Places of Peanuts

Girl Power in Peanuts (through November 8, 2021)
Peanuts was coed from the very first strip. The original female members of the Peanuts Gang, Patty and Violet, played against the hapless Charlie Brown, his buddy Shermy, and Snoopy. They never quite took center stage until Charles M. Schulz developed later female characters like Lucy and Sally, and then Peppermint Patty and Marcie, who had, “enough personality to carry out ideas.” In the new exhibition, Girl Power in Peanuts, come see an exemplary display of girl power as played out in a variety of circumstances, from fields of play, to dress codes at school and beyond, and the influence of the exceptional women in the life of Charles Schulz.

Drawn from Life: The People and Places of Peanuts (September 19, 2021-March 13, 2022)
Charles M. Schulz rejected hiring writers or paying for jokes as he navigated the comic panels of Peanuts on a daily basis. With weekly syndicate deadlines, Schulz worked at finding new and fresh ideas to lend to his cast of characters, in addition to developing personas for the characters themselves. Schulz drew from reality much of what he poured into Peanuts, recalling memories from across his life. He also borrowed some of the names for his characters from people he knew. Drawn from Life takes a closer look at the people and places in Schulz’s world that inspired the now well-known character names, traits, and gags in Peanuts.
