A New Year’s Day traffic collision took the life of an 80-year-old Roseville woman.

Just before 5:30 p.m. Sunday, January 1, Evelyn Marion Montoya, 80, of Roseville was walking across Douglas Boulevard at a midblock location east of Sierra Gardens Drive.ย ย She had already crossed the westbound lanes, and stepped off the center median onto eastbound Douglas Boulevard, into the path of a 2011 Hyundai coupe driven by a 30-year-old man from Folsom.

The Hyundai driver had just turned onto eastbound Douglas from southbound Sierra Gardens Drive.ย  He didn’t see the pedestrian in time, and his vehicle struck her.ย  Mrs. Montoya was transported by ambulance to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.ย ย

Douglas Boulevard was closed in the vicinity of the collision for approximately 4 1/2 hours while investigators examined the scene.ย  The collision is being investigated by Roseville’s Major Accident Investigation Team.
