Sacramento, Calif.- Senator Ted Gaines, R-Roseville, announced that he is joining forces with the California Winter Games Committee, an exploratory coalition of business, civic and local leaders focused on bringing back the Winter Olympic Games to the Lake Tahoe region.

‘The impact of the Winter Olympic Games on my Senate District would be enormous,’ said Gaines. ‘Millions of dollars would be pumped into the local economy, a legacy of infrastructure improvements would be left behind, and the world’s attention would be focused on our majestic Sierra Nevada region.’

In the coming months, the Committee will research the economic impacts and environmental considerations of staging a Winter Games, briefing and enlisting feedback from those with a significant stake in a future Winter Olympic Games and securing input from a wide number of California organizations.ย  The Committee will also work closely alongside Nevada”s Reno-Tahoe Winter Games Coalition to promote both states’ individual and combined interests.

ย “I am a tremendous fan of the Olympic Movement and marvel at the achievements of the world’s best athletes during the Games.’ said Gaines.ย  ‘To bring that level of competition to our region and do so in an environmentally sound manner that brings tremendous economic benefit to California and our neighbors in Nevada would be our own gold medal.’

Senator Ted Gaines represents the 1st Senate District, which includes all or parts of Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Lassen, Modoc, Mono, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento and Sierra counties.
