Rocklin Police Department officers responded, isolated the immediate area, and identified the device as an intact Vietnam-era hand grenade. The Placer County EOD team responded within an hour and a quarter and they detonated the grenade which turned out to be void of explosive material.

The Rocklin Fire Department responded as a precaution.

The area where the device was found was across the wide roadway from homes and in a grassy area. No homes were in any danger although officers notified or attempted to notify homeowners in the area nearby of the situation.

Park Dr. was closed to through traffic for about a 20- minute period.
