Stephanie N. Erends, who was arrested Monday for the murder of Alicia Ernst, was arraigned last Wednesday on a single charge of murder and is being held without bail in the Placer County Jail in Auburn.

Erends, 25, of Roseville, is scheduled to return to court on March 17, at 8:30 a.m. in the jail courtroom.

Placer County Sheriff’s investigators have determined that Ernst, 24, of Citrus Heights, was killed in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 8 at the Walerga Road location where her body was found by a county public works employee. She was killed with a sharp-edged utility tool, which has been recovered.

Erends and Ernst knew each other for several years. There are no other suspects in this case and the investigation is still ongoing.

No other details are available at this time and all future requests for information should be directed to Deputy District Attorney Scott Owens at the Placer County District Attorney’s Office.
