Update: This morning, investigators are actively following leads to ascertain the identity of the remains found last night near the Morgan Creek Golf Course. An autopsy will also be performed this morning in an effort to determine the cause of death.

Due to the condition of the body, which appeared to be underwater in a creek for a period of time, DNA testing may be necessary to determine the identity.

Released Thursday night:

Placer County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a creek near the Morgan Creek Golf Course at around 5 p.m. this evening when a passerby found what appeared to be skeletal remains.
ย
The human remains were located near a bridge. Detectives are processing the scene and the body was removed and taken to the Placer County morgue, where an autopsy will be performed. Detectives are attempting to identify this person, and at this point it’s not known whether the remains are male or female.
