Babysitter charged with homicide
On Saturday, May 13, a 15-month-old Roseville girl died at Sutter General Hospital in Sacramento as a result of traumatic brain injuries consistent with “shaken baby” syndrome.
Roseville Police detectives today filed homicide charges against Veronica Salcedo Martinez, 36, of Sacramento, the babysitter who was caring for the child at the time of her injury. She has been held without bail in the Placer County Jail since her arrest Friday afternoon.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 11, Roseville Fire Department paramedics and an ambulance responded to a residence in north central Roseville, for a reported unresponsive infant. The baby was in the care of a babysitter at the time of the call.
The baby was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center by ambulance and then transferred to Sutter General Hospital in Sacramento. On Saturday, May 13, she died as a result of her injuries.
Roseville Police Department investigators arrested the child’s babysitter, Veronica Salcedo Martinez, 36, of Sacramento, Friday afternoon on an initial charge of child abuse. On Saturday, Roseville Police added a charge of homicide.
