Auburn, Calif. – Seniors First has been awarded a $10,000 grant through the James and Virginia Benson Memorial Fund, managed by the Sacramento Regional Community Foundation. After a competitive application process, Seniors First was selected as one of an elite group of recipients who provide meals, transportation and other vital services to seniors in Placer County.

“We are overwhelmed with gratitude for this significant gift and proud to be a beneficiary of the Benson Grant.  We are especially pleased to be recognized by the Sacramento Regional Community Foundation as a vital partner in program delivery to the County’s elderly,” remarked Jamee Horning, Executive Director of Seniors First.

The grant money will immediately aid in funding Seniors First’s Senior Cafรฉs, area meal sites operated by volunteers that provide hot meals to seniors for a nominal donation.  These kitchens serve the elderly who may not otherwise have access to nutritious food and social interaction.

“As we enter the Holiday season, the comfort provided by our Senior Cafรฉs becomes even more important as the elderly can feel isolated and lonely as their mobility may be limited by inclement weather,” added Horning.

Seniors First is always in need of friendly, dedicated volunteers and financial support to underwrite programs and services for Placer County’s elderly and their families.ย
