Granite Bay, Calif. – The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada awarded the San Juan Water District a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. San Juan received the award for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2016.

This certificate of achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“We are honored to receive this award,” said San Juan’s Finance Director Donna Silva. “This speaks to San Juan’s commitment to providing financials that meet the highest standards of transparency and accountability.”

An impartial panel of judges reviewed San Juan’s report against the program’s high standards for financial reporting, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving nearly 19,000 government finance professionals throughout North America. The association established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program in 1945. The program encourages state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
