A proposed ordinance that would make the City”s 55 parks and 4,000 acres of city-designated open space areas smoke-free will be presented to the City of Roseville’s Parks & Recreation Commission at 7 p.m., Mon., Oct. 1, at the City Council Chambers, 311 Vernon St. The commission invites public input and will forward its recommendation to City Council. Â
State law currently prohibits smoking in City parks within 25 feet of a playground or tot lot.
In addition to reducing health risks for the community caused by second-hand smoke, smoke-free parks would reduce fire hazards and smoking-related litter, as well as helping protect wildlife exposed to toxins when they ingest discarded cigarettes.
Other California communities with smoke-free parks include Sacramento, San Francisco, Davis, Woodland, Winters, Fresno, Modesto, Berkeley, Dublin, and 36 additional California cities.
If approved, no-smoking signs would be posted in all city parks and open space areas.
