Roseville nurse arrested, suspected of stealing seniors’ prescriptions

Roseville Police Department investigators have arrested a nurse on suspicion of stealing prescription medications from residents of a senior living facility on Sunrise Avenue.

Officials from Westmont Living, the company that operates The Terraces of Roseville, reported to police their suspicions that a resident registered nurse was stealing numerous packages of prescription medication from residents, in some cases giving them over-the-counter pain medication in place of their prescribed painkillers.

Detectives met with the facility officials and searched the suspect’s apartment at the senior living facility.  In her apartment, they found dozens of packages of medications prescribed to 28 different people, including 19 residents of the senior care facility.   Many of the medications were narcotic painkillers.

On August 18, Roseville P.D. investigators contacted the suspect, Marlene Sandra Delp, 63, at the senior living facility and arrested her without incident on suspicion of burglary and elder abuse. Delp was held in the Placer County Jail until her arraignment on August 20.  She pleaded not guilty and was released on her own recognizance. A restraining order prohibits her from returning to the senior living facility.

Roseville Police Chief Mike Blair said, “This is an important reminder to all of us to stay involved in the care of our loved ones, especially those in care facilities.  If you have any concerns about their medication or other aspects of their care, report your concerns to authorities.”

Concerns about the well-being or care of an elder or dependent adult who lives in Placer County can be reported to Placer County Access at (888)886-5401.  Concerns about elders and dependent adults living in other counties should be reported to that county’s adult protective services agency.
