Roseville Electric names new director

Becomes the first woman to oversee the utility

City Manager Mike Shellito announced today that Michelle Bertolino has been named the new director of Roseville Electric, following a nationwide search. She becomes the first woman to oversee the utility that was established 98 years ago.

Michelle has worked for the City of Roseville since 2002. She has been responsible for Roseville Electric’s Administrative and Retail Energy Services business unit which includes financial, energy and load forecasting and reporting, rate development, budget management, demand-side management and public benefits programs, electric systems, customer service, public relations and regulatory compliance activities.

“Her leadership, technical knowledge of the electric industry and vision of success for Roseville Electric and our City distinguished her from all the other candidates”

She also managed Roseville Electric’s Distribution business unit and was responsible for electric operations, construction, and maintenance, engineering, and dispatch services.

Prior to Roseville, Bertolino worked for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District. She also worked for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission as an Assistant General Manager and Finance Director and at KPMG Peat Marwick where she received her Certified Public Accountant’s license from the State of California.

Bertolino attended the University of California at Davis, Graduate School of Management and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

“Throughout the assessment center and interview process, Michele emerged as the clear choice,” said City Manager Mike Shellito. “Her leadership, technical knowledge of the electric industry and vision of success for Roseville Electric and our City distinguished her from all the other candidates”

Incoming City Manager Ray Kerridge, who starts on June 17, also was involved in the selection process and said, ‘I was impressed with Michelle’s leadership, vision, and customer-service approach. Those attributes are critical to ensuring the health and sustainability of Roseville Electric, which is integral the community’s long-term success.’

Roseville Electric, the City of Roseville’s publicly owned electric utility, began a nationwide search for a new utility director following the retirement of Tom Habashi in December 2009. The utility serves 53,000 customers and owns and operates a 160-megawatt natural gas electric generation plant. Roseville Electric has 130 employees and $130 million in energy sales in 2009.

Established in 1912, Roseville provides safe, affordable, reliable energy and dependable service. Roseville Electric was recently honored by PA Consulting and the American Public Power Association for being a highly reliable utility. Roseville Electric also partners with Environmental Utilities at the Roseville Utility Exploration Center to educate our customers in a high-tech, hands-on facility about new technologies and services that preserve our natural resources through conservation.
