Roseville City Council Unanimous in California Proposition 1 Support

The Roseville City Council, at its September 17 meeting, voted unanimously to adopt a support resolution for Proposition 1, a statewide water bond headed to the November 4 ballot for consideration by California’s voters.

If approved by voters, the $7.5 billion water bond money would pay for new water infrastructure, watershed protection, groundwater storage and management, water recycling projects and programs and water conservation efficiency plans, projects and programs throughout the state.

Proposition 1 could fund the following kinds of projects throughout the state if approved by voters:

* $2.7 billion for water storage, potentially for new reservoirs
* $900 million for groundwater cleanup and monitoring
* $725 million for water recycling projects
* $1.5 billion for watershed restoration programs, such as increasing river flows for wildlife
* $200 million for storm water capture projects
* $395 million for statewide flood management, including delta flood protection projects

If the bond measure passes, the City of Roseville intends to request funds for the following projects to improve water reliability in our community:

* Increased water recycling infrastructure and the areas serviced in Roseville
* Development of groundwater capacity within Roseville
* Flood control improvements
* Development of more robust water system interties with neighboring water agencies to improve capacity and reliability
* More robust water efficiency programs for the community

Working with partners in the region, bond funding could also be used to build and expand water storage in the state which could help to relieve pressure from existing water storage facilities, like Folsom Reservoir, that serve 500,000 people in the Sacramento region, including Roseville.

Known as the Water Quality, Supply and Infrastructure Act of 2014, the proposition replaced an $11.4 billion measure that was slated for the November ballot.
