Auburn, Calif.- Good water storage in local mountain reservoirs will allow the Placer County Water Agency to make normal water deliveries this year, it was reported at Thursday’s (Apr. 4) meeting of the PCWA Board of Directors.
PCWA Director of Field Services Mike Nichol said that reservoirs operated by the water agency, Pacific Gas and Electric Company and Nevada Irrigation District have ample storage to meet this year’s water demand in Placer County, including commercial agriculture in far western Placer County Zone 5.
The announcement follows a dry January, February, and March that produced little precipitation, and April 1 snow surveys that showed just half of normal water content in the mountain snowpack. The good water storage is attributed to near-record early precipitation in November and December.
Nichol said that while normal deliveries are planned this year, the light snowpack could impact carryover water supplies for 2014. He said PCWA is continuing to encourage customers to use water efficiently.
