The violent crime rate in Roseville declined 28% in 2014, according to Roseville Police.

Roseville’s violent crime rate is near a 20 year low and coincides with the long term decline in violent crime throughout the United States. Sacramento recently reported a big drop in serious crimes and a murder rate at a 40 year low.

Ironically, the trending decline in U.S. violent crime happens during a period of time when the pervasiveness of communications makes it easier for media organizations and those with political agendas to disseminate a distorted reality of facts using fear to attract viewers and push policy.

While no violent crime is acceptable, it’s clear that for many, we now are living in one of the safest periods of our lives when it comes to violent crime in the United States. For that, we are thankful.
