On July 17, 2011, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a shooting that had taken place in the 3900 block of Madison Avenue.
The caller reported that an acquaintance of his had been shot inside his apartment, and that the suspect had fled on foot in an unknown direction. Deputies arrived at the scene and found a male victim with a single gunshot wound to his upper body. Paramedics responded to the location and pronounced the victim, believed to be in his late 20’s to early 30’s, deceased.
The victimย was later identified in a reportย as 36 year old Mario Jose Rodriguez of Roseville.
Information from the witness revealed that the victim, a casual acquaintance of his, had arrived at the apartment seeking refuge, stating that somebody was coming after him. Shortly after the victim came into the apartment, the witness said that his door was opened, and a man confronted the victim as he stood inside the apartment. After a brief exchange of words, a second man emerged behind the first, who stood at the door of the apartment. The second male then entered the apartment and began wrestling with the victim. After a brief struggle, the caller stated that he heard a gunshot, and the victim collapsed to the floor. The suspect ran out of the apartment and he and the other male fled in an unknown direction. The resident of the apartment called 911, and attempted to perform CPR on the victim while awaiting the arrival of emergency personnel.
The suspects are described as two Hispanic males, in their late 20’s to early 30’s. At this time, Sheriff’s Homicide detectives have not established a motive for the shooting, and the nature of the relationship between the victim and suspects is unknown.
