A former California Highway Patrol officer faces up to one year in the Placer County jail after pleading guilty to two misdemeanor charges of molesting children and one misdemeanor count of possession of child pornography.

Wayne Robert Alger, 37, of Roseville entered the plea Wednesday before Placer County Superior Court Judge J. Richard Couzens, who scheduled the sentencing for Sept. 2.

Placer County Deputy District Attorney Jeff Wood said Alger also faces five years of formal probation and will be required to register as a sex offender.

Alger molested a 16-year-old girl at his home in July 2008 and committed a lewd act upon a 12-year-old Rocklin girl inside a vehicle in 2007, according to the criminal complaint.

Alger, a 10-year veteran of the CHP, was arrested Oct. 24 by Rocklin police following an investigation into a report by the family of one of the victims. He has since resigned from the CHP.
