Last week Roseville Police narcotics detectives arrested a local couple on suspicion of mailing four pounds of methamphetamine across the country.ย The meth had a wholesale value of about $32,000 and an estimated street sale value of at least $90,800.
On September 25, postal authorities alerted Roseville Police narcotics detectives to a suspicious package that had been returned to them. The package contained address abnormalities and other features that indicated the package contained illegal drugs. VNET (Vice and Narcotics Enforcement Team) detectives investigated and identified a local couple they suspected of sending the package. Detectives contacted the couple and served a search warrant authorizing them to open the suspicious package. It contained approximately four pounds of vacuum-packaged methamphetamine. Detectives estimate that in California the meth would cost a dealer $32,000, and would bring in at least $90,800 once it was repackaged for street sale. The street value could be far higher outside California.
Detectives also served a search warrant on the couple’s home and found packaging materials and other items associated with drug sales, illegal assault weapons and ammunition.
Lionel Shiloh Reyes, age 34 of Roseville, was arrested on suspicion of possessing and transporting methamphetamine for sale, possession of illegal firearms, and other related charges. His wife, Jaylene Duenas Reyes, age 30 of Roseville, was arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine for sale and conspiracy, and released on a citation to appear.
It’s becoming more common for higher-level drug dealers to mail illegal drugs out of state, because they’re often more expensive–and thus more profitable–in geographic areas outside of California.ย The Roseville Police Department has partnered with the U.S. Postal Service and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration to combat such methods of drug trafficking.
