Roseville Bear Sighting

The Roseville Police Department received several phone calls Sunday, September 29 reporting bear sightings near South Cirby and Old Auburn roads.  There were no injuries to residents or the bear. 

Roseville Police started receiving calls at 7:30 a.m.  The bear was moving in a northerly direction near the Linda Creek corridor.  The last sighting was at 10 p.m. Sunday evening and it is believed the bear is no longer within the city limits.

A video of the bear was made by Roseville Police Department Sgt. Karl Dyer in a backyard on Ridgeview Drive around 11:20 a.m.

If you encounter a bear in your yard, slowly back away.  DO NOT approach the bear.  Allow the bear plenty of room to pass or withdraw.  Once you are a safe distance away, encourage the bear to leave by banging pots and pans or making loud noises.

Bear encounters are quite rare in Roseville. If you hear that a bear has been spotted in your neighborhood, bring your pets and pet food inside, and lock your garbage can in your garage until the bear has left the area.  For both public safety and the bear’s safety, we want to keep it wild and not encourage it to stay in a populated area.
