Vietnam-era hand grenade rendered safe
Rocklin, Calif.- Rocklin Police Department officers responded to a call of an unexploded hand grenade found by a landscaper and the Placer County Explosive Ordnance Detail (EOD) rendered it safe.
On Thursday, September 20, 2007, at approximately 1:00 PM a landscaper working in the area of Park Dr. and Tahoe Vista Ct. found a hand grenade wrapped in an old shirt just off the Park Dr. roadway. He summoned police.
Rocklin Police Department officers responded, isolated the immediate area, and identified the device as an intact Vietnam-era hand grenade. The Placer County EOD team responded within an hour and a quarter and they detonated the grenade which turned out to be void of explosive material.
The Rocklin Fire Department responded as a precaution.
The area where the device was found was across the wide roadway from homes and in a grassy area. No homes were in any danger although officers notified or attempted to notify homeowners in the area nearby of the situation.
Park Dr. was closed to through traffic for about a 20-minute period.
