Chabad Community Center Hosts Speakers in Rocklin

Rocklin, Calif. – In the dark of night in November 1938, the Nazi Party in Germany systematically attacked the Jewish people, torched synagogues, and vandalized businesses and homes in communities throughout the country and killed 100.

The attacks, to become known as Kristallnacht or the Night of Broken Glass, were a violent escalation of the oppression of Jews in Germany and, yet, just the beginning of horrendous things to come.

On Tuesday, Oct. 30, the Chabad Jewish Community Center of Placer County will welcome two speakers to our community to mark the upcoming 80th anniversary: Rabbi Yitzchat Wagner, who recently opened a synagogue in Krefeld, Germany for the first time since the Holocaust; and Holocaust survivor Margot Goldberg, whose family has roots in that city, Krefeld.

Born in Krefeld, Rabbi Wagner will share his story of deep struggles that have contributed to the resilience of Jewish life in Germany today.

“We are honored to have Rabbi Yitzchak Wagner come to Placer County and share his inspiring story of faith and triumph,” said Rabbi Yossi Korik, Director of the Chabad Jewish Community Center of Placer County.

Mrs. Goldberg, who survived Kristallnacht, lived a normal childhood until the Nazis rose to power. Margot will share her memories of what happened during Kristallnacht when Nazis broke into her home, destroying everything in their path and took her father who was later sent to a concentration camp.

“People today have few opportunities to hear directly from Holocaust survivors like Mrs. Margot Goldberg,” said Rabbi Korik. “We encourage the entire community to join us for this special event.”

The event was held at 7 p.m. on Oct. 30, 2018 at the Rocklin Event Center located at 2650 Sunset Blvd. in Rocklin.

The Chabad Center is committed to exposing young people to these stories and has made this an annual event, with different Holocaust survivors coming to Placer County.

Admission to the event is FREE for all students. Other tickets are $15 purchased in advance or $20 if purchased at the door.
