The Sierra College Boulevard/I-80 Interchange Project continues to make progress. This project will widen the over-crossing, construct new ramps, bring the interchange up to current design standards and alleviate traffic congestion.
During demolition of the existing bridge structure, conduit pipe containing asbestos was discovered within the concrete sidewalk. As a proactive measure, the City has hired a certified asbestos consultant and contractor to monitor and remove this pipe material from the concrete rubble.
For 14 days beginning Monday, May 19th, 2008, workers will be proceeding with the removal process at the interchange construction site. Workers will be wearing protective gear while removing this material per California OSHA requirements. There is no hazard to motorists or pedestrians.
