Turning to the past to shape the future
Rocklin, Calif.- On March 14, 2004, Run Rocklin, previously called Rocklin Run for the Gold, raised $8,000 to help support saving Rocklin’s oldest public building from the wrecking ball.
The Saint Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church had fallen into disrepair after the parish vacated the building in 1983 and moved to modern quarters on Granite drive.
The Run Rocklin contribution helped the Rocklin Historical Society move the church 1000 feet north on Front Street to become the centerpiece of Rocklin’s new Heritage Park, a volunteer effort to beautify Rocklin’s railroad corridor. The restored church now glistens near the corner of Rocklin road and Front Street and is a non-denominational chapel available for concerts, weddings and other ceremonies.
Run Rocklin raises funds for a different community project each year. In 2005, the event raised funds for the Matt Redding Memorial Scholarship Foundation. Police Officer Matt Redding died on duty on October 9, 2005, the victim of a drunk driver.
