On January 20, 2009, at about 5:00 P.M., a Rocklin Police Officer spotted a black Volvo fishtailing at a high rate of speed through the intersection of Rocklin Road and Pacific Street. The officer gave chase in an attempt to make an enforcement stop, but the Volvo continued to drive away attempting to evade the officer. A short pursuit occurred through a residential area of Rocklin. The driver then abandoned his Volvo in a stranger’s driveway and fled on foot.

An alert citizen pointed out the direction that the driver fled and a search followed. Aided by several other citizens who pointed out the fleeing suspect, he was soon apprehended near the Rocklin Train Depot.

Derek Bayless, 18 years, of Auburn, was arrested for felony evading of a police officer. He was booked at Placer County Jail and subsequently released on bail.
