In the mid-morning hours of November 3rd, a Rocklin Police Department officer, assisted by his drug K-9, arrested a male subject for being under the influence of a controlled substance and other charges.
Officer Jason Westgate saw the subject in the parking lot of the Taco Bell at 4340 Rocklin Road standing next to his vehicle. When the subject saw the officer, he approached Westgate. While conversing with the subject, Westgate noticed drug usage symptoms. A small amount of marijuana was located on the subject during a subsequent search.
Officer Westgate then called upon his K-9 partner, Diva, to check the subject’s car for illegal drugs. Diva, a black Lab, is certified in the detection of the odors of marijuana, methamphetamine, and other drugs. She “alerted” to the car and additional marijuana was found.
Joaquin Mason McLarty, 29 years, of Grass Valley, was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance and for marijuana possession.
Upon arrival at the Placer County Jail, Officer Westgate found a controlled substance in the backseat of his patrol vehicle that was associated with McLarty. He was also booked for possession of a controlled substance.
Diva has been in service for about two years and has assisted in over 50 drug arrests.
