On March 18th Rocklin Police responded to Johnson-Springview Park at 5480 5th Street and arrested a 71-year-old man for brandishing a handgun.

Just before 5:00 PM, police were called to the park because of a 9-1-1 call regarding a man that was threatening to shoot someone. At the time, there were children playing in the park but based on the description given to the Rocklin PD Dispatch Center police spotted the man immediately and secured a small handgun.

Witnesses told police that the man was a common visitor to the park and that he and a 22-year-old man had a disagreement which escalated to the point where the 71-year-old retrieved a handgun from his truck. The gun was spotted by several of the younger man’s friends and police were called.

Although, witnesses did not claim the 71-year-old man pointed the gun at anyone, the mere displaying of the handgun is a crime.

Bernard Dale Markham, 71 years, of Rocklin, was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, criminal threats and brandishing a firearm. He was booked into Placer County Jail and is being held on $15,000 bail.
