Rocklin Honors Public Safety Volunteers

Rocklin, Calif.- Rocklin Police and Fire Volunteers were recently honored in an annual ceremony that celebrated public safety volunteerism.  Friends, family, and city dignitaries, including the Mayor, and City Council members Diana Ruslin and Greg Janda, as well as Police Chief Ron Lawrence, and Fire Chief Jim Summers, gathered at the Johnson Springview Community Center to honor those who have selflessly donated their time to the community of Rocklin.

The Police Volunteer program was initiated in 2002 by then Community Service Officer Mike Nottoli, who started with only four volunteers. 12 years, and many local, national, and international awards later, the program has grown to over 120 volunteers who provide invaluable services to the community.

Over 15,000 hours were donated by Rocklin’s Police and Fire Volunteers in 2013.  Volunteers specifically honored during the dinner included those who have worked 100 hours or more in 2013.  Many of the recipients received Presidential Service Awards for their dedication and commitment to volunteerism.

These awards included:

• Bronze Presidential Service Award (100-249 annual volunteer hours) – 13 recipients
• Silver Presidential Service Award (250-499 annual volunteer hours) – 9 recipients
• Gold Presidential Service Award (500 or more annual volunteer hours) – 1 recipient

Retiring after over 31 years in law enforcement, current Police Services Manager Nottoli, was also honored during this annual event.  The respect for Mike’s leadership and vision, as well as his legacy of service and dedication to the City of Rocklin undoubtedly contributed to the highest attendance ever recorded for this event (128 attendees).

The successes of Rocklin’s public safety volunteer program will continue as it thrives and expands under the leadership of newly appointed program coordinators, Sumer Regalia, Volunteer Program Coordinator, and Wendy Smith, Crime and Fire Prevention Program Coordinator.
