Rocklin Academy Fifth Grader Henry Low Places in SACMATH Contest

Rocklin, Calif.- Rocklin Academy fifth grader Henry Low enjoys working with numbers. Recently Low participated in the elementary school division of Sacramento Area Competitions in Mathematics (SACMATH) and won 3rd place on the team test and 8th place in number sense. Fifteen area schools participated with 45 fifth graders competing in the contest.

SACMATH operates with the goal of providing local opportunities for students to challenge themselves in mathematical contests. Low received a trophy for his efforts.

“It was my first time to join a math contest,’ said Henry Low. ‘The test questions were kind of hard, but I still enjoyed working on the problems. I made some new friends and learned some new math tricks. I am very happy to win the trophies. Even if I didn’t win anything, I would still enjoy the contest.”

The SACMATH Number Sense Test is a 10 minute mental math test. Individual students are given 80 basic math problems and are not allowed to use scratch paper or calculators. The SACMATH Team Test puts students of the same math level into teams of four. Each team receives a 10 question test and 20 minutes to solve as many problems as they can.
