FUGITIVE GARY LEE ST. JOHN CAPTURED

Steven M. Martinez, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Las Vegas Field Office, announces the apprehension of Gary Lee St. John. In January 1999, a federal arrest warrant was issued charging St. John with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution following St. John’s failure to appear for trial on charges of sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in Reno, Nevada.

On December 20, 2006, St. John was admitted to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles, Louisiana as a result of a stroke. Hospital officials ascertained that St. John was a fugitive after observing a posting on the FBI’s website ( . Hospital officials then notified law enforcement personnel, and on December 21, 2006, St. John was arrested. It is expected that St. John will be extradited back to Reno within a week.

Prior to being apprehended, St. John was profiled on the Oprah Winfrey Show and America’s Most Wanted website.

The investigation into St. John’s whereabouts was conducted by the FBI and the Washoe County.
