Roseville, Calif.- ย– January 10, 2006 ย– Placer Valley, which encompasses the cities of Roseville, Rocklin and Lincoln has been awarded the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) 12 and Under Girls Softball Nationals for 2007.

Placer Valley Tourism along with the Greater Sacramento Softball Association (GSSA) bid on this event at the November ASA conference in Tucson, AZ. Placer Valley beat out 12 other cities in the Untied States to win this prestigious event. The event will be held at Maidu and other parks around the Sacramento area due to the high number of teams expected to participate. GSSA commissioner Jeff Dubchansky says ‘This will be a great event for our cities and our region. It was important to win the 12 and under event as those teams tend to bring the whole family and spend the week.’

In 2005 the 12 and under event was held in Aurora, CO. This event brought in just under 100 teams and resulted in 13,000 hotel nights throughout the week. The extended stay brought the City of Aurora an estimated $5 to $7 million in tourism spending.

Sports Tourism Manager, Coleman Peiffer says, ‘These teams travel from long distances and take this week as a family vacation. They spend their money at our malls, water parks and restaurants. This is a great win for the Placer Valley.’

The event will take place July 31st through August 6th, 2007. In 2005 Placer Valley hosted the 16 Under West Nationals at Maidu Park and the Sacramento Softball Complex. The 16 under event brought in just under $1.8 million in tourism spending. It was the success of that event and other ASA events hosted in the area that enabled Placer Valley Tourism and the GSSA to win this national event.
