Roseville, CA – Placer SPCA proudly announces the recipients of the 2013 Hero Awards.

The Placer SPCA annually recognizes individuals, organizations, and animals that make extraordinary contributions to strengthening the human-animal bond.

This year, eight awards were presented in total, four of which were presented to local rescue organizations, including:  A New Hope Animal Foundation; Angels Rescuing Kritters; Auburn Area Animal Rescue Foundation (AAARF); and, FeildHaven Feline Center. All four organizations are located in Placer County, and work together with Placer SPCA and other local animal welfare organizations to save the lives of homeless and abandoned animals in our community.

In addition to the above mentioned, four awards were presented to furry friends, including:

  • Shooter,   a golden retriever who saved his dog mom from a near drowning accident.
  • Katie, a therapy dog who spends her free time visiting Sutter Health patients in hospital and rehab units, as part of Sutter Health’s Wonderful Animals Giving Solace program, known as WAGS for short.
  • Shep, a therapy dog, who works alongside his dog mom at a local senior assistance facility, providing companionship and love for all residents.
  • Lilly, a service dog who provides constant reassurance to her family, by sensing and alerting her family of changes to a diabetic teens blood sugar levels. 

The hero awards were presented at Placer SPCA’s 12th annual Funny Bones event. With the generous support of our participants, we were able to raise nearly $100,000! Donations raised through Funny Bones provide funding for the programs and services of Placer SPCA, local companion animal welfare experts.

After the awards presentation, guests enjoyed a comedy performance by Jack Gallagher, courtesy of Marilyn Festeresen Insurance Agency / A Farmer’s Agent, Sidesplitting Sponsor.  Hero sponsors of Funny Bones were Sandy Lerner – Ayrshire Farm and Wells Fargo.
