Auburn, Calif.- Directors of the Placer County Water Agency on Thursday (Nov. 15) honored two of their members who are leaving elected office after 20 years of combined public service.
District 3 Director Lowell Jarvis and District 5 Director Ben Mavy were recognized during a ceremony held during their last board meeting.ย Neither sought re-election in the Nov. 6 general election. ย Jarvis, a retired state employee who resides in Ophir, leaves office after four elected terms and 16 years in office.ย He praised the agency’s accomplishments over the years, saying the progress has been possible because “we all work together.” ย Mavy, of Applegate, an independent financial consultant, is stepping down after one four-year term on the board.ย “Public service is a privilege,” he said.ย “I’m thankful to have had this opportunity.”
The new 2013 PCWA Board of Directors is scheduled to take office in December.ย Members include Gray Allen of Roseville, District 1; Alex Ferreira of Lincoln, District 2; Mike Lee of Loomis, District 3; and Robert Dugan of Roseville, District 4.ย The District 5 election has not yet been certified by Placer County Elections Office.
In other business, PCWA directors:
- congratulated District 2 Director Alex Ferreira, who was recognized Nov. 8 by the Placer Land Trust as 2012 Placer Conservator of the Year.ย County Supervisor Robert Weygandt and Land Trust representatives Fred Yager and Jeff Darlington attended the PCWA board meeting to pay tribute to the longtime Placer County rancher.
- retained the Folsom-based consulting firm GridSME to assist the agency in planning and registering a new compliance program with the North American Electric Corporation (NERC).ย The program is required as PCWA moves into its new role as an independent hydroelectric power producer in May of next year.
- heard an update from Director of Field Services Mike Nichol, who reported that this year’s fall maintenance outage on PCWA and PG&E canal systems is proceeding smoothly and scheduled for completion by Nov. 29.
