The Roseville Police Department is investigating a traffic collision in which a pedestrian was seriously injured. The driver of the vehicle that struck him has been arrested for DUI.
At 1:55 p.m. Saturday, January 22, Roseville Police and Fire personnel responded to Fairway Drive just south of Blue Oaks Boulevard to a report of a pedestrian who had been hit by a Jeep.
Officers determined that Ilia Arthur Wong, 20, of Roseville was driving his 1993 Jeep sports utility vehicle east on Blue Oaks Boulevard and turned right onto southbound Fairway Drive. He failed to negotiate the curve and drove up onto the sidewalk in front of Chili’s Restaurant, hitting the pedestrian. The pedestrian, off-duty Sacramento Police officer Bobby Daniels, 47, was taken by ambulance to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with major injuries. According to the Sacramento Police Department, Officer Daniels is a 15-year veteran of their force, assigned to their detective bureau.
The driver, Wong is in custody in the Roseville City Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants, causing injury. His bail is set at $50,000.
The Roseville Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating. A short section of southbound Fairway Drive just south of Blue Oaks is closed for investigation, and traffic is being diverted around the scene.
