ROCKLIN, Calif. – William Jessup University is co-hosting a number of premier Nike sports camps for boys and girls ages 8-18 this summer. Camps include boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, and girls volleyball.

William Jessup head men’s basketball coach and associate athletic director Lance Von Vogt will again be leading the boys and girls basketball camps. Coach Von Vogt’s accomplishments include being awarded NWAACC Coach of the Year while guiding the Peninsula College Pirates to the Community College Final Four.

In just his second season last year at William Jessup, Coach Von Vogt led the Warriors to their best start (7-0) in school history since joining the NAIA.

“Basketball camps over the summer can be a truly wonderful tool to develop young players at a number of levels,” Coach Von Vogt said. “Kids get to see a new perspective on the game, learn how to develop their skills, make friends, see what a college campus is like, and develop attributes such as good character and sportsmanship.”

The five-star camp will focus on developing young player’s individual fundamental basketball skills, as well as enhancing position specific skills for intermediate to advanced players. Emphasis is placed on fundamental development, shooting, offensive moves, defense, rebounding, team play, and more.

The girls camp will be held from June 29 to July 2, while the boys camp is July 6-9. Camps will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily with overnight accommodations available. Both camps include ages 8-18.

The Soccer camps will be led by William Jessup University’s head women’s soccer coach Jamie Howard, who has a career record of 77-42-9 at WJU. Howard won the California Pacific Coast Conference five of the seven years that William Jessup was a member.

Howard has been named NSCAA Regional Girls Youth Coach of the Year for the Western Region of the United States and is a CYSA Licensing Instructor and holds her National “A” License.

“Our camp directors are among the finest coaches in America.” Coach Howard said. “They have a major stake in providing camps of the highest quality; camps that are fun and that improve the skills of the campers. The best place to become a better soccer player is in the company of coaches and players who share your passion.”

The coed Nike soccer camp will allow the players to learn both technical and tactical aspects of the game. Focus will be on speed of player, first and second touch, movement off the ball, shooting, defending, proper support, etc.

Futsal and agility work will be incorporated as well. Emphasis will be placed on creating a fun environment where the students are able to learn and feel comfortable to be creative. The camp will build confidence and passion in each player.

Boys and girls soccer camps will be held together from July 20 to July 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. with options for campers to stay overnight. Ages include 8-18.

William Jessup’s new women’s volleyball coach Shasta Millhollin-Bossom will be leading the girls Nike volleyball camp. Prior to coming to Jessup, Millhollin-Bossom coached numerous high school programs, including five club teams that have finished the year ranked in the top-10 nationally.

“At Nike Volleyball Camps, our goal is to generate a passion for the game in young athletes by showing them how to accelerate their own progress and success,” Millhollin-Bossom said. “By partnering with Nike and working with the country’s finest coaches, we are able to offer an extraordinary growth experience, no matter what your age and skill level.”

Millhollin-Bossom plans to offer an experience that will cover all aspects of the game, ensuring attendees have a solid skill foundation to build upon after the completion of the camp. The volleyball camp will be held for girls ages 10-18 from July 23 to July 26 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Overnight accommodations are available.
