Newcastle, Calif. native and Del Oro High School graduate, Petty Officer 1st Class Ansel Glendenning, who has served as a U.S. Navy aviation maintenance administration man since 1991, has been named Sailor of the Year by Commander Naval Air Force Reserve.

He is currently attached to Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 61, located at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Oak Harbor, Wash. He serves as the Maintenance Control Leading Petty Officer and is Safe-for-flight qualified on the C-40A Clipper, the Navy’s variant of the Boeing 737-700 series aircraft.

“His high degree of professionalism and dedication to the mission set him apart from the rest,” said Cmdr. Brian Wilson, Glendenning’s commanding officer.

“He has led from the front in every position assigned and provides sound guidance to junior Sailors in regards to career and professional knowledge and is my key person in command event organization,” added Wilson.

Previously, Glendenning served multiple tours of duty in Jacksonville, Fla and San Diego, Calif.
